Growth, Love, Acceptance, and Care: Life Lessons from Ancient Creatures and the Flower of the Sun

Updated: Dec 6, 2023

"Once upon a time, in a land far away, there existed a race of ancient creatures that were incredibly small. No one knew where they came from or why they existed, but they were special in their own way. They were content with their size and place in the world as they went about their lives.

However, one day, something strange happened. Without warning or explanation, the tiny creatures began to grow and grow until they were the size of gorillas! This sudden transformation confused and bewildered them, and they struggled to adapt to their new bodies.

As the creatures were all black, they found it difficult to navigate night's darkness and distinguish each other. But the sun, who had always watched over them with love, was not willing to let them suffer alone. So every evening at twilight and sunset, the sun would create a flower from its powerful light and energy. This flower, known as "the flower of the sun," would grow a long green stem to reach the gorillas and care for them with love.

The flower's petals carried the sun's rays, which protected the gorillas from the darkness and confusion of the night. As the creatures basked in the warmth of the sun's love, they began to feel more and more comfortable in their new bodies. And with each passing day, the flower of the sun grew stronger and more radiant, reminding the gorillas that they were never alone and would always be protected by the sun's love."

Life is full of surprises, and sometimes we find ourselves going through unexpected changes. Just like the ancient creatures in the myth, we may suddenly see ourselves growing and transforming in ways we never thought possible. It can be confusing and overwhelming, but as we navigate these changes, there are powerful lessons we can learn about growth, love, acceptance, and care.

The ancient creatures in the myth began their journey as tiny beings. They were content with their size and place in the world until one day, they started to grow and grow until they were the size of gorillas. This sudden transformation left them bewildered and unsure how to navigate their new bodies. But just as the sun had always watched over them with love, he created the flower of the sun to protect and care for them. The flower's petals carried the sun's rays, providing the ancient creatures warmth, protection, and a reminder that they were never alone.

As we journey through life, we, too, experience growth and change. Sometimes it is gradual, and sometimes it comes suddenly and unexpectedly, just like the transformation of the ancient creatures. It can be scary and overwhelming to undergo these changes, especially if they take us out of our comfort zone. But just like the ancient creatures, we can learn to trust that we were meant to be in this new body or situation from the beginning. We can learn to see the potential for growth and positive change within ourselves and embrace the journey of transformation with curiosity and openness.

But growth is not always easy, and sometimes we may encounter challenges along the way. For example, the ancient creatures in the myth were not used to being gorillas, and the darkness of night left them confused and bewildered. But the flower of the sun continued to grow and radiate its light, reminding the ancient creatures that the sun's love was always there to protect them. In the same way, when we encounter challenges on our growth journey, we can look to love and care as sources of strength and resilience. We can learn to care for ourselves and each other, just as the flowers in the myth took care of the ancient creatures. We can learn to dance with each other in the love dance of life, spreading warmth and positivity to those around us.

The myth of the ancient creatures and the flower of the sun offers powerful lessons about growth, love, acceptance, and care. As we journey through life and experience changes, we can learn to embrace ourselves and trust that love and acceptance will always support us. We can learn to care for ourselves and each other, just as the flowers in the myth took care of the ancient creatures. And just like the flower of the sun, we can radiate our own light and love, spreading warmth and positivity to those around us as we embrace the journey of growth and transformation.

The creation of this piece of art was a journey in itself, inspired by the powerful myth of the gorillas, the sun, and the flower of the sun. The watercolour painting depicts a majestic gorilla embracing the flower, with its long green stem growing out of the coppery sphere of the sun.

Bringing this vision to life required a delicate balance of technique and emotion. The watercolours flowed and blended together to create the rich greens and yellows of the leaves. At the same time, the gorilla's fur was carefully painted in shades of brown, blue and black to capture its strength and majesty.

But the true essence of the painting lies in the story it tells of growth, love, and acceptance. As you look at the gorilla embracing the flower of the sun, you are reminded of your journey and the moments of transformation and confusion we may face along the way. And you are inspired to find comfort and support in the love and protection of those around you, just like the gorillas found in the flower of the sun.

I hope this myth and artwork have inspired you to embrace your journey of growth and love and find comfort and support in those around you and beauty and meaning in the process itself.
